Help with my drawing?
Ok so I'm doing this drawing. I'm entering it in the state fair and I have to enter it by August 2nd. It's a drawing of a little girl holding and Umbrella. The problem is that I don't know what to draw in the background, I mean, obviously I'm drawing rain but it needs to have an actual background too. Any ideas? Please help, I need to get it finished!
Hi! well, my first question would have to be do you really need a background? sometimes just inserting a background can take away what the core meaning of a picture is. many illustrators though the years have eliminated any background all together to focus the viewer on what is the point. Just look at some Rockwell saturday morning post illustrations. many times he just included a graphic element like a square or circle to "bulls-eye" the focal point.
The girl with the umbrella could be just standing in a puddle, with the ripples below her fading out from her feet. You could even include a few raindrops falling. The reason is to isolate her in the picture.
but if you do decide you need a background, I would make it simple. a skyline, a silhouette of a tree or two, a fire hydrant, a simple park or school playground....i don't know but nothing too complex as to take away from your focus of the girl.
